Today’s energy

Today the Tzolk’in marks kin 226: tone 5 with the Cimi (Death) day sign. That is the energy running through the whole day, from sunrise to midnight.

Not an ending but a gateway to rebirth. The cycle of death and renewal.

On Cimi days, honor your ancestors and release what no longer serves you. A powerful time for closure rituals, meditation on impermanence, and gratitude ceremonies.

Tone 5 gathers resources. Today is for collecting what is missing — people, money, information — before pushing any further.

Today’s combination calls for gathering: in practice, ending something that has nothing left to give. What not to force today is speed: earth energy delivers slowly, and rushing it only leaves the work half done.

How the kin of the day works

The Tzolk’in is the Mayan sacred calendar: 260 days made of 20 day signs turning alongside 13 tones. Each combination of sign and tone is a kin, and the 260 kins follow one another without repeating until the cycle closes and begins again.

The day sign tells you what the day is about — water, wind, jaguar, sun — and the tone tells you where in the process it sits: 1 opens, 7 observes from the middle, 13 completes. Reading the day means reading both at once, never one alone.

This page calculates the kin with the GMT (Goodman-Martinez-Thompson) correlation, constant 584283, the same one the rest of the site uses. That is why the sign you see here always matches the Mayan calculator, and may not match sites using another correlation or the Dreamspell count.

Frequently asked questions

When does the kin change?

At midnight in YOUR time zone. The page uses the date on your own clock, so the kin turns over when the day turns over where you are, not when it turns over in Greenwich.

Is today’s kin the same all over the world?

The count is, the date is not. The Tzolk’in counts whole days, so two people in different time zones can be living different kins for a few hours. That is why each visitor sees the date of their own zone at the top.

How is this different from my birth day sign?

Your day sign is the kin of the day you were born and never changes. Today’s kin is the one for today and changes every 24 hours. One says who you are; the other says what the weather is like outside.

Why does another site give me a different sign for today?

Because it uses a different correlation. With Martin and Skidmore (584286) the sign shifts by three positions, and with the Dreamspell count the gap grows because that system skips 29 February. We use GMT 584283 and say so on every page.
